Cowes - Osborne

Cowes - Osborne detailed guided tour of house, followed by grounds

Bought and completely rebuilt in 1845, this was arguably the best-loved home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, designed and furnished by Albert himself and where Victoria died in 1901. Unique in the sense that it was only lived in for 55 years by Albert and Victoria and no-one else, it therefore has ‘time-capsule quality’ as a true representation of how they lived with no additions or reproduction artefacts. Not a palace but rather a ‘family home’ – the true feel of their intimate family life, likes and loves is very evident. Although fairly large, it is ‘homely’ rather than stately. Your personal guided commentary will really bring this very ‘real’ family to life for you, with many lesser-known facts and anecdotes which will serve to lend a much more fun-loving and endearing side to these influential royals that may sometimes prevail. After a detailed tour of the house – take either guided or unguided time to explore the beach, gardens and Swiss Cottage and Museum. Ride the courtesy mini-buses, stroll around the kitchen garden or even swim at the private beach – changing facilities on hand!
